MEET THE TEAM

Employee Highlight

Say hello to our Warehouse Manager, Alexsa Gallardo, who has been a valuable member of our team since January 2022. According to her, her favorite aspect of the job is “delivering happiness! I mean, people love beer and  beer makes them happy and we give them beer, who wouldn’t love that?!” Team dynamics, she explains, is why she loves working here so much. “I love it here because of the team, great communication, and the willingness to step up and assist others”. When Alexsa is not managing the warehouse, she can be found enjoying her favorite hobbies which include going to the beach with her two daughters, Charlotte and Olivia, and watching fail videos that make her laugh. While she claims to be a 2-3 on a scale of 1-10 for humor, we disagree given her answers to the following questions: If she could do anything for a day, she would be a pro stunt driver with the “Baby Driver” soundtrack playing on a loop. If she were a superhero, her superpower would be to “eat without getting fat”, and if she were stranded on a deserted island, the three items she would take with her are a lifetime supply of salami, cheese, and wine. We think that’s pretty darn funny! But then she shared a joke: “what does the buffalo say to his son when he drops him off at school?…. Bison.” *crickets*….So there’s that. (Just kidding, it’s pretty funny) In addition to her skills as a Warehouse Manager, Alexsa speaks two languages; English and Spanish. We are proud to have Alexsa as a part of our team and grateful for her contributions to Islamorada Beverages.

MEET THE TEAM

Employee Highlight

Meet Marissa Witte, our beloved Bartender and Assistant Manager at Islamorada Brewery & Distillery Fort Pierce. Marissa joined our team back in November 2020 and quickly became a staple in the bar, bringing a smile to every customer’s face with her warm personality and infectious laughter. Her favorite thing about working for Islamorada is the opportunity to work for a growing, local company and having the opportunity to meet so many amazing people. When she’s not making drinks and cracking dad jokes, Marissa can be found enjoying life out on the crystal-clear blue waters of the Florida coast, drinking rum runners,  and relaxing with a good book under a shady palm tree. If she were ever stranded on a deserted island, Marissa would bring a fuzzy blanket to stay cozy, delicious snacks, and iced coffee to enjoy. If she were a superhero, her power of teleportation would allow her to travel more frequently so she could come and go from her private island whenever she wished and also travel anywhere else in the world she had an interest in spontaneously visiting. One thing she couldn’t live without is chapstick, which she swears by. Her favorite Islamorada product is the Islamorada Vodka, which she loves in her signature espresso martini. With a self-rated sense of humor at a 6, Marissa’s original joke is “What’s Mario’s favorite type of pants? Denim Denim Denim”.  Fun fact about Marissa? She has a twin sister who brews beer in Cincinnati. Marissa is truly one of a kind, and we are grateful to have her on our team.

Rich Daniels

Rich works as a Spirit Guide down at our Islamorada taproom. One of Rich’s favorite aspects of working at Islamorada Brewery & Distillery is making people happy. He loves meeting and talking to all the interesting people who come in to try our spirits and thoroughly enjoys watching their reactions as he turns the blue hue of our Hibiscus Gin to bright pink. Rich is a military veteran who came from a high-stress environment working as a Certified Emergency Manager.  These days he embraces the Island State of Mind®, tries not to let things bother him, and lives a stress-free lifestyle. Rich enjoys cycling and scuba diving around the FL Keys in his spare time. We asked Rich, what are three things to take on a deserted island? Rich said, “A companion, a lot of food and cold drinks, and a boat to get off the Island.” Cheers to you Rich, thank you for being a great member of our team and bringing joy to all the people you have served.

Holiday Cheer at the Brewery & Distillery- Islamorada

Stop by the Islamorada Taproom for live music five nights a week to help you ring in that Holiday Spirit. John Ciulla kicks off the weekend on Thursdays from 4:30 – 7:30 pm. Ray Jaworski ushers in the good times Fridays from 4:30 – 7:30 & closes out the weekend Sundays 1 – 4 pm. Rob Garza cranks it up every Saturday 3 – 6 pm. Make sure to Join us for a special Christmas Themed Trivia on Tuesday the 20th from 6-8pm. The Taproom will be open on Christmas day 11am – 7pm.

Holiday Fun  – Fort Pierce

This December, stop by the Islamorada Brewery & Distillery’s Fort Pierce Taproom Saturdays and Sundays for great holiday family fun. Our bounce house will be open every Saturday & Sunday (except Christmas Day) to let your kiddos jump into the year’s most festive season (and give you a little break too). Join us for Family Feud every Monday starting at 6pm and swing by on Tuesdays for Think and Drink Trivia at 6 pm. Test your trivia skills on an array of topics and show your friends who the smartest is! Salty Bingo helps usher end the end of the week on Wednesdays and Line Dancing KICKS off the closing of the work week on Thursdays. Finally, Music Bingo helps usher in the weekend with all your favorite (and not-so-well-known tunes).

Employee Highlight

Meet our employee spotlight, Gianna Polito is an integral part of our team at Islamorada Beverages, working in business development and building relationships with our clients throughout SE and SW Florida. One of Gianna’s favorite aspects of her job is having the opportunity to travel and see different places throughout the state while working on building accounts with great local businesses. In her free time, Gianna enjoys staying active with hobbies like kickball, fishing, taking “hot girl walks”, and playing with her new golden doodle puppy. When asked what she would bring to a deserted island, Gianna wisely chose a fire starter, a bag of potatoes, and a water purifier. If Gianna was a superhero, she would choose the power of teleportation, so she could easily check off items on her bucket list, like visiting Thailand. Gianna’s favorite Islamorada product is our refreshing lavender lemonade, and she also enjoys the Pineapple Mango Vodka made exclusively for Snook Inn, a contract distillation she is very proud to have been a part of. We are grateful to have Gianna on our team and appreciate all the hard work she puts in for Islamorada Beverages.

We are hosting several exciting events this January. Our popular Glow Bingo is returning on January 28th, so mark your calendars for a fun-filled night of bingo and brews. We are also hosting our annual Car Show on January 7th, which is sure to be a hit with all you car enthusiasts. In addition, the brewery is offering a late-night cocktail hour every night of the week. Be sure to check out these events and more with the Fort Pierce calendar.

Say Hello to
Mr. Patrick Barnes

Patrick Barnes came to us after  what amounts to nearly a lifetime of brewing experience. Raised in D.C., he began his Brewer’s journey while still in high school with his friend (don’t worry, his dad helped and supervised as an of-age adult). He and his friend continued brewing throughout college at the University of Mary Washington where Patrick double majored in Economics and Business. After graduating, he continued his passion for brewing at two northern breweries before being recruited by the president and co-founder of Islamorada Beverages back in 2016. Patrick helped spearhead the build out of the Fort Pierce production facility and, to this day, never ceases to amaze with his knowledge and ingenuity. As for his future at Islamorada Beverages he states, “I look forward to the day I see our beer on shelves up north when I visit home to see my parents”. Nicely said, Patrick….us too!

No matter your house, all Potterheads must stop by on Nov 6 at 5 pm for Harry Potter Trivia, and don’t forget to wear your wizard gear for a free beer. Take a trip to the Underside with Stranger Things Trivia on Nov 13 at 5 pm and all paper salesmen (especially those from PA!) will no doubt shine at The Office Trivia on November 20th. HURRICANE IAN RELIEF EFFORTS

While both of our locations were graciously spared the effects of Hurricane Ian, our counterparts on the other side of the state were not as fortunate. Having endured our fair share of natural disasters, our hearts go out to all those suffering from Ian’s devastation and wading through the aftermath. So, to help those affected, we have joined Big Storm Brewery’s effort in providing assistance and supplies to those who need it the most right now. We will be collecting donations at the Fort Pierce Taproom located at 3200 Saint Lucie Blvd in Fort Pierce, FL, and the Islamorada Taproom located at 82229 Overseas Highway Islamorada, FL to help Big Storm in its goal to support the clean-up and recovery efforts and provide supplies to residents, first responders, and linemen. All Floridians are called upon to act quickly to help deliver some relief for families and businesses that have been affected. Items needed are:

 

Garbage bags – Cleaning supplies such as brushes and sponges – Peroxide or anti-mold products – Bleach – Gloves (both surgical and yard/utility) – Plastic tubs – Gas cans – Bungee cords – Rakes – Yard tools – Tarps – Button cap roof nails – Chain saws – Blowers – Generators – Damp rid – Socks – Nonperishable foods such as canned tuna, peanut butter, and jellies (to help feed volunteers and recovery personnel) – Bottled water

Please do not bring items of clothing other than what’s listed above – it’s cleanup and recovery these communities will need help with first.

Hibiscus Gin, Dark Rum, & Crooked Palm® Win BIG At The USA Spirit Rating Competition

Crooked Palm (all flavors), Hibiscus Gin, and Dark Rum ALL received accolades from a panel of high-profile spirits industry judges at this year’s USA Spirit Rating Competition. Each entry scored highly in three different categories – Quality, Value, and Packaging – in order to take home a medal in the competition. Winning Gold, four Silvers, AND Bronze medals at the USA Spirits Ratings Competition is not only an ultimate seal of approval but also shows that Islamorada Brewery & Distillery™ makes high-quality spirits with broad consumer appeal. One of the guiding principles of the USA Spirits Ratings competition is that all spirits that receive medals in the competition should be those that consumers actually want to buy, whether it is shopping for a spirit at a retail liquor store, or ordering a spirit off a bar menu. The judging panel included spirits industry professionals with commercial buying expertise. It also included professionals from leading retail chains, wholesalers, distributors, specialty retailers, and casual and fine dining establishments. The inclusion of many high-profile judges ensured that spirits that were awarded medals in competition were those with a high degree of commercial appeal.

Key Lime Hibiscus Ale Takes Home Bronze
at the USA Beer Rating Competition 


In an incredibly competitive field at the 5th annual USA Beer Ratings competition in San Francisco, California, Key Lime Hibiscus Ale won a Bronze medal. All beers were judged on a 100-point scale by a panel of high-profile judges with the extensive commercial buying experience. In an innovative twist on traditional scoring at international beer competitions, the USA Beer Ratings used a three-factor scoring system that took into account factors beyond just brewing technique or overall taste. The total score was calculated based on three different scoring factors – Quality, Value, and Packaging. To win a USA Beer Ratings award you will need to score highly in all three areas of the judging criteria. Islamorada Brewery & Distillery’s Key Lime Hibiscus Ale is available at your local Winn Dixie Store.

Meet our Princeton-Educated, not-afraid-to-get-her-hands-dirty, do-what-it-takes to keep customers happy, Jill-of-many-trades, Miss. Larisa Baste. Since coming on board in the summer of 2016 to pour pints for guests, there’s truly nothing this girl hasn’t done at the company. She started working full-time at the Islamorada Taproom way back in 2018 where she helped with the distillery as well as behind the bar and was quickly given the spot as Islamorada Taproom Manager. She even took a turn promoting our spirits which is how she began experimenting with mixology…so make sure to thank her when enjoying one of our amazing hand-crafted cocktails! By 2021, she filled her days doing a little of everything as general manager of the Islamorada location; helping to organize, plan, strategize, and, yes, making her amazing cocktails when there’s a moment to spare. In her own words, “one of my proudest achievements is navigating the process of getting our top cocktails in kegs and on taps. It makes me so happy to see people enjoying our spirits and having a great time.” These days Larisa spends a great deal of time at the computer crunching numbers and projecting forecasts but her heart is always sitting in the beer garden, enjoying a nice cold Islamorada Beer.

Mark your calendar for Friday, October 28th for Islamorada Brewery & Distillery’s EPIC Annual Halloween BASH. Starting at 7 pm, all ghouls and goblins will endeavor to find their way out of the Escape Room…only the scariest and most clever creatures will find the way out! Partygoers can dance the night away with tunes from the DJ. Starting at 7 pm and going until midnight, this can’t-miss event only comes once a year so start planning your costumes!

Ale Mary

Halloween wouldn’t be complete without the spookiest of drinks…the Bloody Mary! Stop by and see us at our Islamorada taproom this October or try making this Ale Mary recipe at home. Start by rimming a pint glass with yummy bloody mary spices. Fill glass with ice and add in 4.5 oz bloody mary mix, 1.5 oz of Islamorada Vodka and 2 dashes of Worcestershire, and 2 dashes of Tabasco. Spice it up with smoked paprika, pepper, Old Bay, and other optional seasonings. Stir well, top with olives, pickles, or other fun ingredients and enjoy.

Oktoberfest

The smell of fall is in the air once again and your seasonal fall favorite, Oktoberfest, is coming back on tap exclusively to Islamorada Brewery & Distillery taprooms. After taking home gold at the 2021 Best Florida Beer Oktoberfest Awards, we couldn’t wait to brew this one again. Oktoberfest will be making its 2022 debut early in the month so make sure to plan a visit to Islamorada or Fort Pierce this September to have a pint or stop by for half-off growler fills every Tuesday. Labor Day marks the official end of summer (even though summer still has 21 calendar days left) and signals that it’s time to get serious. Employee Highlight

Meet treasure coast native Paul Whitney. Paul joined our team back in December 2019 as a packaging hand having no prior experience in the brewery production industry. Due to his inherent interest in mechanics and overall brewery operations, Paul quickly moves up the ranks as a filler operator and now works as the packing manager at our Fort Pierce production facility. Paul’s favorite part of the day is the end of the day when he can relax and enjoy his well-earned shift beers and reminisce on the hand he plays in making a quality product he’s truly proud of. His favorite beer is our Nested Reel (Kettle Hopped Sour Ale). Cheers to you Paul and all the hard work you put in for Islamorada Beverages!

For Good Music And Cold Beer In Islamorada

September is gearing up for another great month of live music here at the Islamorada taproom. Ray Jaworski will be playing on Fridays from 4:30-7:30 PM and on Sundays from 1-4 PM. John Ciulla is playing on Thursdays from 4:30-7:30 PM. Rob Garza will be playing on Saturdays from 4:30-7 PM and on Wednesdays the 7th and 21st from 5:30-8:30 PM. DJ Sandy Ziya will also be playing on Saturdays the 3rd and 17th from 12-3 PM.

Test Your Trivia Skills Fort Pierce, FL

Starting every week off right, Tuesdays feature Think and Drink Trivia at 6 pm. Test your trivia skills on an array of topics and show your friends who the smartest is! No matter your house, all Potterheads must stop by on Sept 11 at 5 pm for Harry Potter Trivia, and don’t forget to wear your wizard gear for a free beer. When Islamorada Brewery & Distillery™ opened its second location in Fort Pierce back in 2016, we laser-focused our efforts towards building for the future of the brand, not just for our immediate production requirements. Having launched our first Spirit in 2017 and enjoying instant support from the community, we knew we’d have to expand, and expand fast. By 2019, we had earned national recognition and accolades for nearly all of our Spirit offerings. Our north location assists in the distillation process giving us the ability to keep up with the increasingly high demand. Employee Highlight

Meet our head brewer Chris Eggert here at our Fort Pierce brewery. Chris joined our team in 2020 as a brewer and quickly began gaining recognition for his proficiency in the brew house. Chris played a major role in bringing home the hardware from the 2021 Best Florida Beer Awards and has since gone on to being named Head Brewer at our Fort Pierce facility. Chris started his brewer journey back in 2000 in New York and gained his Master Brewer Certification during that time. In 2005, Chris and his family made the move down to Florida, during this time the craft brewery industry had not yet taken off to what it is today. Chris briefly left the professional brewing industry and successfully owned and operated multiple business ventures. Meanwhile, he continued his passion at his small home brewery, crafting his favorite brews throughout the years. Chris is a true professional and an expert in his craft. We are honored to have him as a member of our team and look forward to his continued growth and success.

Tuesday Night Trivia with Ray Jaworski

Test your recall skills every Tuesday from 6pm-8pm in the spacious Beer Garden at the Islamorada Taproom located on Overseas Highway. All those things that live “rent-free” in your head can be put to good use as you compete against others in topics such as Pop Culture, Sports, Random Facts, Name that Tune, and more or less ANY category where fun facts turn into prizes. Thursday 7-9pm

Line dancing is a fun dance performed, solo or in a group, to country music. It is typically danced in a line with other dancers, making it excellent for someone without a partner. The line dance has simple steps that look great, only requiring accurate timing and foot placement. No need to sit out line dances anymore! Aged for over a year and a half in Rye Whiskey Char 3 Barrels, Islamorada Reserve Rum’s unique flavor derives from the use of premium, GMO-free Select Molasses and our unique combination distillation process. Driving all the alcohol from the mixture through a pot distillation and using our copper column for a 5x distillation of the second run produces an incredibly smooth, light canvas for the barrel flavor to take hold. Our Reserve Rum is the smoothest in our premium category lineup. The use of small aging barrels intensifies the contact between the Rum’s vanilla-spiced body and the smoky whiskey flavor of the solid oak inner boards. Derek Tetzner

Meet Derek, our “rock star” North Florida sales representative. Originally from the state of Delaware, Derek has made a name for himself here in Florida by helping us grow Islamorada Beer, Spirits, and Crooked Palm throughout the North Florida territory for over a year now. Derek came to us from the popular Prohibition Kitchen in downtown St. Augustine where he worked as a manager for over 7 years becoming an expert in bar and restaurant experience. In addition to being extremely knowledgeable in our industry, Derek enjoys surfing, fishing & spending time with his wife and 3 children. Meet our brewing guru Gian. Originally from Savannah, GA, Gian has been an essential part of our team concocting your favorite beverages since 2018. Due to his extensive knowledge in chemistry & biology, we can guarantee – from brewhouse to barstool – that your beverages are crafted with the utmost quality thanks to this brew wizard and his dedication to the brewing process.

ISLAMORADA BEVERAGES TO HOST GIVE A PINT, GET A PINT BLOOD DRIVE FEBRUARY 19TH, 2022

FORT PIERCE, ISLAMORADA,
FL – Islamorada Beverages, in partnership with OneBlood, is hosting two community blood drives on Saturday, February 19, from 1:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Both locations (on the Treasure Coast and in the Florida Keys) will have BIG RED BUSES on the ready to help us reach our 500-pint goal. Donors will be celebrated and thanked with a drink voucher which can be used at any time. Help us support a great cause.

Nationally and locally, blood supplies have dropped to critically low levels, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which continues to affect donations. In early January, the American Red Cross warned of the blood crisis – citing the 62% drop in college and high school blood drives due to the pandemic as two contributing factors. Other reasons for the blood shortage were ongoing blood drive cancellations because of illness, staffing limitations and weather-related closures and a surge of COVID-19 cases, and an active flu season that may compound the already bad situation. Overall, the pandemic has revealed the most significant shortage in the past 10 years in terms of the typical blood level of donations; about 10% lower than historical collections.

Nationwide, many areas have less than a one-day supply of type O blood—the most needed and transfused blood type that’s vital in emergency situations. The type O blood supply is at its lowest since May 2020, shortly after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s common to assume that accidents use the most donated blood however, there are many reasons patients need blood. People needing the most blood include those who are being treated for cancer, are undergoing orthopedic or cardiovascular surgeries, or those who are being treated for inherited blood disorders. There is simply no substitute for blood and volunteer blood donors are the only source for patients in need of blood and blood products. It is a truly life-saving endeavor, and a single donation can save up to three lives. Those who are eligible are urged to share their good health by donating blood.

A New Year – Same Island State Of Mind

2021 surely was a year to remember at Islamorada Brewery & Distillery. Much has changed at our Islamorada and Fort Pierce taprooms so if it’s been a while since your last visit, make sure to plan a trip for 2022 and get in on the fun. There’s a lot to look forward to this year, including our seasonal canned beer releases, new Crooked Palm flavors, taproom specials, fashionable additions to the Swag Shop, and weekly events hosted at both locations. Come in to see us soon and raise your glass to another year crafting Florida’s finest.

Employee Highlight

Meet Amy Osteen, our new sales rep down in the Florida Keys. Although Amy is new to the Keys neighborhood, she is no stranger to the Islamorada Beverages brand. Amy has been one of our top-performing sales reps since 2018, leading our team in the Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast territories. We look forward to seeing Amy’s growth continue down in the southernmost territory.

Have you ever taken a tour of our brewery? Well if you haven’t had the chance to stop by our Fort Pierce brewery, now is the time to fix that. We host a variety of weekly events from trivia to car shows, line dancing, bingo, comedy night, paint night & much more. There’s always something to do here at headquarters so stop in or plan a visit soon. Specialty cocktails coming to this location soon!!

Embrace the Florida heat with our refreshing jalapeno cocktail that’s built for the tropics. Served on the rocks with the freshest ingredients, this island-style cocktail is designed to kick up the temperature and send you to paradise. Try our recipe at home: 1.5 oz Islamorada Vodka, ¾ oz simple syrup, cilantro or culantro, slice jalapeno, 1.5 oz passionfruit juice. (muddle for extra heat)
